Why Spay & Neutering Makes for a Better Pet

Spaying/neutering your pet can help save his or her life, as typically spayed/neutered animals live a healthier and longer life. Spayed and neutered animals tend to be more affectionate and calmer. It may reduce aggression, roaming and marking.

Spaying an animal gets rid of their heat cycle, which means it also gets rid of the bleeding, nervous behaviors, and crying that comes with the heat cycle.

Pets should be spayed or neutered at young ages and before the female’s first heat cycle.

Neutering and spaying your animals can help reduce the incidence of some of the more common types of cancers such as mammary gland tumors, ovarian, uterine, and testicular cancer.

Feral or Community Cat Prevention

SNAP supports efforts to trap, fix and release feral cats. We are able to assist members of the community by providing traps and crates to allow for transportation to the clinic.

What is a Feral or Community Cat?

A ‘feral’ cat is unsocialized and tends to be fearful of people and keeps its distance. These cats are most often found living outdoors in groups known as colonies. The cats in a colony share a common food source and territory and may include not only ferals, but also strays – former pet cats who were lost or abandoned. They protect their territory and keep other cats out.

These cats don’t belong to anybody; they belong to everybody.   The unowned Community Cat population in Baja has exploded in recent years as roaming dog packs have decreased and people willing to feed them has increased.

SNAP also supports efforts to trap, fix and release feral cats.  We are able to assist members of the community by providing traps and crates to allow for transportation to the clinic.
